LJ how do you expect me to give rage feedback about your stupidly unnecessary comment page redesign IF I CAN'T EVEN POST COMMENTS?! WTF?

EVEN THE DOCTOR AGREES WITH ME!

IDK, everyone says they're going to move over to Dreamwidth. Things have changed on LJ over the past year or so and it's just not like what it used to be (not the actual site, but people using it ect), but I'm so confused over who posts at DW and LJ that I just don't want the hassle of having two 'full time' journals. I've been on LJ almost 10 years... holy. shit. I've invested a lot and I just can't up and leave.

Same here. Having to post @ 2 different sites is too much. Plus I am lazy.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm not leaving LJ, either, but something around here needs to change for the good.

Btw, where is that gif from?

Sadly the money is probably will get the big changes. If people just stop paying for stuff on here then they have to go 'oh, something isn't right' and look into it immediately.

I'm not sure where that gif is from, sorry. :( It's probably from one of his recent non-Who related movies/shows.

This is how I am feeling right now, coupled with a whole lot of rage for the way in which this issue is being handled. On the one hand I want to say: "FUCK YOU LJ!" and just leave, but on the other hand it's kind of hard to. I've been using this site since I was 15. D: I have a lot of friends and memories here - it's not that easy to just up and leave.

But it's getting to this point where... I don't know. I don't want to support something that doesn't support me. D: I hope they fix this issue with the comments page soon. I'm getting sick of looking at my customized comment page, just so that I can have proper functionality and the ability to actually comment. :\

I just saw your post about all this in your journal and I completely agree (although I've always loved the customized comment pages). It's not efficient what they've done. The keywords work fine. I know what each keyword is for each icon, so I don't need a 'preview'.

I also feel like they've given the finger to permanent users as well. We shelled out a lot of money for it, but now we're basically non existent and not cared about or thought about.

IDK. I've used this since I was 17 and there's a lot in here for me personally and that's not something I can say 'good bye' that easily.

This has pretty much been my feeling for quite some time. They don't care what we have to say because we're not currently paying for anything (which is a load of shit, because I am still paying for extra userpics, and I buy other users paid account time). I guess I might as well do as they think and just not pay for anything.

The problem is, I think they get a lot of their money from ad revenue, and 3rd parties. Even if LJ's userbase stopped investing money, they probably wouldn't notice it. Why else would you have such blatant disregard for those investing into your company? :\

I didn't notice the change because it doesn't seem to affect people who have customized layouts. I can see where it would be annoying to lose certain features. But then, I remember the days when LJ didn't even HAVE any of those features which are now gone.

I have a DW account, under donna_c_punk. I'm staying here because I have a permanent account, thus way more userpics than my DW account. I'm giving up trying to crosspost for a second time because it's just too much of a hassle.

I noticed it immediately since I went to comment on a couple entries on my FL and it was set to the default comment setting and nada. Couldn't comment or do anything. I haven't had any trouble with custom comment pages.

I have a permanent account here as well and I just don't want to pay for another service as well. This LJ has been paying for itself since 2006.

I'd recommend just starting to crosspost and see how you like it. You can still keep entries open for commenting here, but have DW as a mirror for people who are based there. (Personally, I comment more on DW -- if a person I've friended crossposts, I comment on DW, not here, because honestly I hate giving LJ the stats and honestly, I'd like to close my account, but too many people ARE still posting here.)

How do I do that exactly? I if there was a cross platform where I could merge the two services together that would be great, rather than having to go back and forth ect.

If you're using Semagic or something, I think it's just a matter of setting up multiple accounts in the post settings. If you post from the web, the only way to crosspost automatically is from DW -> LJ (which is in the account settings.) You can't do it from LJ -> DW, unfortunately.

I don't have a paid DW account -- honestly, I don't use it (or LJ) often enough to justify the cost (I stopped paying for LJ in 2007 or something.) But free is fine with me.

I always use Semagic and didn't know I could set up multiple accounts. I'll try that! Thanks. :)

Also FWIW it's rather easy to set up DW as an openID account for commenting :)

Okay, cool! Thanks. I'm importing my LJ to DW right now. I like the idea of having a back up for my LJ in general, but hopefully this will give me the best of both worlds.

Yay! I didn't import my LJ (I'm one of those clean slate people), but I did import my flist, so hopefully everyone should have access to my entries over there (though I've already friended you.)

It's a chicken/egg dilemma. No one's going to move to DW if none of their friends are there. But someone has to take the leap, and the more who do, the easier it will be.

It just isn't what it once was. I think between the facts that people just lose interest and stop posting, FB, Twitter, Tumblr and other forms of networking sites LJ has just become the 'old format' type of blogging/networking.

OMG, subject box, I missed you so!

I went over to DW and grabbed my user name, just in case, but I'm still trying to make a go of it on LJ. Especially since I'm permanent.

I'm bunnylove on DW if you want to add me, although I haven't used anything yet. I'm permanent as well and my journal has been paying for itself since 2006, so from a money/business standpoint it just doesn't make sense to move elsewhere where I'll get less features or have to pay for service again.

i didn't even know about another LJ type htingy. i try to start on other sites, but my attention span doesn't let me continue.

i've been on LJ since i started high school, and it's probably the only place where i can actually safe about ranting about stuff lol

*end my 2 cents* ^_^

Same here. My LJ will turn 10 next year. I don't want to pack up and leave. :(

I had to disable a Greasemonkey script to tell LJ I hated their ugly comment age redesign. D:

I'm very happy on DW, but completely understand that it's not for everyone. But LJ got to a point where it just didn't feel like home to me anymore. I rarely come here anymore, but it's still nice to be able to check in on old friends from time to time who didn't make the move to DW.

Happy Christmas, hon! :D
