All my final grades are in... 3.84 GPA and will be making the Dean's List for a second time. Who know I would fail hard in high school but do so well in university? Out of my eight classes I got five A's, so I am really quite pleased with myself considering how intense this program really is. I never thought I'd be doing this well in university. Now lets see if I can keep it up for the rest of the year.

It's also perfect that the class I skipped the most I got the overall highest grade in. XD Figures.

I'm officially on my winter break! I don't have to go back until January 9th! I can sleep, watch tv, sleep, sleep, and then maybe sleep! It's awesome. This weekend was basically me catching up on said sleep. Yesterday I woke up at around 1pm and then I fell asleep on the couch at 3:30pm for an hour and was late for my volunteering. I'm not tired or anything.

Today I volunteered for pet photos with Santa today at Petsmart; I was the photographer and got to use my new camera from school. I got an A- in my photography class this semester, so I put it to good use. This was the last day of the event (it's been going on every weekend this month) and we've raised so much money for VOKRA. We really need all the donations we can get because our vet bills are crazy high. It was mostly dogs and a couple of cats that came into the store for a photo but we did have one bearded dragon! I've never photographed a bearded dragon before, so it was interesting. Her name was Sheila and she was very nice, I got to pat her and she seemed really at ease with everyone.

I have five days of school left. In the past two weeks alone I have had eight final projects due and this last week I have three. I can tell you that it hasn't been easy, but I'm happy I can see an end to it all. I haven't had any time to really get into Christmas, so I feel a bit detached from it all. Hopefully that'll change at the end of the week. Also based on all my marks I've gotten for projects I doubt I'll pull anything lower than a B in all my classes. I'm not too horribly concerned about grades and such because once I grad in 2014 the overall grades won't matter too too much, but it's still nice to keep them high for scholarships considerations.

Having all this school work means that I've fallen behind on some TV, but I've managed to catch up on a couple of things.

Every year I get more and more creeped out about Black Friday. Just hearing what people go through just to get stuff. C'mon, pepper spray? Really? The level of materialistic obsession and selfishness is getting just out of control. I know black Friday is supposed to fun and have that sense of the mad dash to get something for a loved one, but I think it's getting a bit out of control.

[/sits back down on soapbox]

I hope my American friends had a good Thanksgiving. :)

School is just so fucking crazy right now that it's incredible. I have about three weeks of classes left and we still have several projects left to do PER CLASS (I'm taking eight right now), plus forour final projects. Luckily I just started on the final project for my Drawing for Illustration class, but it's gonna take a lot of time. So if no one sees me for awhile I'm not dead, just working and trying to get what little sleep I can.

This weekend though should be interesting. My mum and I are Chihuahua sitting for someone this weekend while they go to Vegas. She brought the two Chihauhau's over last Friday to let them check our place out and meet the cats, boy they were not happy. Even though they're all twice the size of these dogs (well, Moe is actually about five times their size) they run like chickens. I think I'm going to be sleeping with a lot of cats on my bed tomorrow night and Sunday.

Next Thursday our class is attending a design/creativity conference called Creative Mix. One thing they offer our class is for us to design some kind of art piece/installation. Apparently we're the only ones that get offered this opportunity and it's a really good way to show off our skills, thoughts, and talents. For the short, short version, our concept is like a flow chart/quiz on creativity with several different answers about who is what. I volunteered for the illustration team and I was picked to illustrated the 'misfit/awkward/struggling with themselves/doesn't belong' portrait. At first I was kind of miffed that I was picked for that one (long history of feelings, school, physical appearance ect., will not go into it here), but in the end I had fun. I came up with someone struggling to put on their sweater, because we've all been there. And of course awkward turtle on the front for those who will know what it means.

This is the final illustration. I had to pull this off very quickly, so for what it is I am happy with it.

Other than that school has been super busy. The conference project is basically outside of everything that is on our curriculum, so everyone has had a pretty stressful week. Thankfully this weekend I can take it a bit easier and work on stuff that isn't due right away.

Did anyone watch that new show Once Upon A Time? I really enjoyed it. I wasn't blown away, but for the subject matter and everything else I thought it was great. It's also nice to see a fresh concept on mainstream tv. Everything is all crime, drama, medical ect. and I'm just sick of it. I'm going to check out the new show 'Grimm' or whatever it is tomorrow.

I've also solidified what I am going for this Halloween. I'm going as an Angry Bird (the red one) because a) it's cheap, b) I have a red shirt, c) it's cheap, d) I have construction paper and string at home to make a beak, e) it's cheap. I went and spent. $0.99 on some black face make-up, so I'll have big black eyebrows on my face this Monday.

I haven't really been updating about school on here (well, actually that's kind of a lie, I've been updating my tumblr with some stuff), but for the most part I am enjoying it. The work has been intense and it's only going to get more so, but I'm having fun. Today I stayed in class until 7:30 so I could finish off two projects that are due on Monday. I'm happy I did it because now I can relax a bit this weekend and just start planning and sketching for the billion other projects I have due in the next few weeks.

The people I'm in class with are really nice and we're all getting along really well. The past two Thursday's have been class 'movie night'. We have a huge screen and digital projector at the front of our classroom, so we can just hook up our laptops to it and play movies. Last week we watched X-Men: First Class. Yeah, I was a giddy mess throughout the whole thing, but luckily I'm in a room full of art students and I'm not the only nerd there. \o/ Last night we decided on a Miyazaki night and watched Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service. I had never seen PM and I have to say I was really disturbed watching it. I don't get disturbed or scared watching movies very much and I gotta say I was super surprised as to how I reacted to it. It was a beautiful, intense, weird, and amazing film that left me weirded out. But then Kiki made up for it because IT WILL FOREVER BE MY FAVOURITE MIYAZAKI FILM! ♥

Today in life drawing class two of the girls were kidding around with the British guy (I think I mentioned him before) and one stole his hat/beanie and he was sitting there with his lovely brown curls around his face. Then one girl said 'Fuck. You look so much like Orlando Bloom.' and it I almost fell over flat on my back because he really, really does and I cannot believe what an utter git I've been for not noticing it before. And of course he's got this lovely accent, lovely sense of humour, is crazy talented, and I'll be with him in school for three years. I can't. The universe is testing me, I'm sure.

I got 95% on my latest photography project. The assignment was just a study of the different focal lengths and depths of field. I honestly wasn't expecting such a high mark since I kind of half assed it, but one of the pics I took I really do love:

Now I'm off to bed since sleep seems to become a rare thing for me these days.

It has officially been one week at school and I've had every class except for one (life drawing). So far so good... only thing is that I have about 10 assignments due or to be worked on. A lot of them are spread out, so at least I have time and the mental capacity to do them all, if they were all due within the next week or two I think I'd cry. I had my first photography class yesterday and I loved it. I've always loved photography and now to be able to get into the nitty gritty of it and learn about all the technical stuff is awesome. I can already tell that this will be one of my favourite classes.

One of my least favourite classes is my communications class. It's a requirement so I can't pass the course without it. Writing is a huge component to a design/illustration career, so I am happy to be learning the skills, but some of the stuff is annoying. Ah well, you always have to take the good with the bad, yes?

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] oohasparklie, I also found out today that we're probably taking a class trip to Portland at the end of February. We'll only be there two days, but I was thinking that maybe.... ;) Also in 3rd year we get to go to New York for a week. I'm super stoked for this because that means that I could see Daisy again. <333

Has anyone read the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger? I'm in the middle of the newest one and I just found something out about one of my favourite characters and I feel the need to fangirl with someone.

I also feel the need to post this pic of Michael Fassbender from the TIFF press conference for Shame, because this is now one of my faves ever:

The first few days of uni have been good! The first day was pretty much orientation for both the university in general and then the program I'm in. Oh and I also got about $3,000 worth of art supplies and a brand spanking new Nikon D3000 SLR camera, with two lenses. It was like freaking Christmas! The paints, pens, papers we got were so awesome. I know that this is all paid for by my tuition, but still it's fun to get stuff. I also got a good desk. We all had to draw out of a hat for assigned seating and the desk I initial got was crap (right in the middle of the room). I overheard one of the guys say how he didn't like his since it was in the back corner so I asked if he wanted to switch and he did! I'm so happy because I'm right beside a window I can open/close whenever I want. That was the biggest thing I was worried about when I thought about it. Kinda silly I know, but still I want to be comfortable. I am in the back corner near the sink, but still surrounded by people. The guy who faces in front of me (two desks face each other) is the clone of Andy (Gabriel Tigerman) from Supernatural. I shit you not, I had to do a double take when I first saw him, it was so freaky. There's also a guy from just north of London in my class and fuck I am in trouble. Any accent from the UK does me in no matter what. What's worse is that he has long dark curly hair and wears jeans and flip flops. KILL ME NOW.

Part of the course requirement is a communications course, so we had that yesterday morning. We went over the syllabus for the year and looking at it as a whole it made me freak out a bit, but luckily the longest paper I have to write will only be 750 words. Then I had illustration and then today was art history which I enjoyed a lot more than I thought. The teacher I have is awesome and a really nice guy. It's a very condensed art history so we've just skipped everything until the Renaissance. We have to replicate a Renaissance painting, which I started today. We don't have to do the whole thing, just need to do a small section of it and then use the techniques that the painters back then used. I picked 'Spring' by Botticelli (if anyone knows that painting you know how detailed it is).

So far I've met all but 2 of my teachers. Everyone seems really nice and I actually had one last summer so I already know him well and know what he's like, so it's kind of a relief. There's also 4 others in my class from the class I took last summer, so I at least knew some people going in. It's kind of a relief that I wasn't going in blind. There's 30 of us in total and I've already gotten to know some of the others a bit. There's a couple of girls who are totally into X-Men, Marvel in general, Doctor Who, Iron Man, Walking Dead and more, so I am with my people. XD

I started decorating my desk area today since I’ll be sitting in the same spot until May. I think fate put me there for the sole reason to have an awesome excuse to put up Fassbender!Magneto (I would have done it anyway, ngl). The words ‘sweet metal’ were already written on the pillar there by a previous student, so I thought I’d make the best of it. I also had to put some inspirational ‘quotes’ up as well. AND OF COURSE I TOOK PICTURES BECAUSE I AM CRAZY AWESOME.

Next to be put up: Iron Man (RDJ like a boss), Sherlock Holmes (again RDJ like a boss), Doctor Who and maybe some Sailor Moon.

I think I'll be okay, although I am feeling that things will get more intense. Already I have three projects assigned (but thankfully they're not due for weeks, so I have time) and one illustration assignment due next week.

Tomorrow I have to go and buy a bunch of stuff including a new cell phone. I haven't had a cell phone in almost 2 years and haven't had too many occasions where I would really benefit from one, but these past few days I've been wishing I had a phone at least 3-4 times a day. I'm just going with a pay as you go plan since I can't afford contract/expensive plans. I'm also buying a net book because it will save me a shit load of time and be so helpful. There's 30 of us and only 7 computers in the classroom, so we're all fighting over one or another and pressed for time. Some have been bringing their laptops in, but the one I have is over 18 inches wide and just so heavy and takes up space. A net book would work wonderfully on my desk and I can do all my research from there and just type up all my communication assignments right in class rather than writing them out by and and then typing them up to submit to the teacher online.

Today I finally saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2. It was incredible and I felt like my heart was in my throat the entire time. I had a couple of issues with it, but overall it was beautiful. I went in expecting to feel emotional, but when Harry went into the forest to face Voldemort and everyone appeared, well, I just broke down. That part of the books always gets me as well, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Also, Neville and McGonagal were BAMFs x a billion. Seriously.

Tomorrow is my first day of university. For those of you who may not know I am taking a three year course in graphic design and illustration. I've been having anxiety attacks all week about it, so things have been a bit emotional. It's not so much that tomorrow I start school, tomorrow I start my life. Like, my life. Those of you who've known me all these years know that it's been a struggle for me for many different reasons. It's more of moving forward for me and just me. These are things that should have happened shortly after high school, but they didn't. It's taken me 10 years to get here and of course I'm going to be a bit nervous. I'm also super excited. After orientation tomorrow morning I have my first class: photography for designers I. I also get a brand new Nikon camera, so the added bonus of a new toy is exciting.

So yes, tomorrow is nerve wracking for me for several reasons, but I think I'm ready.

Tomorrow is my last day at Starbucks:

Seriously I am so happy to be leaving. The politics and management at my store have just been a nightmare for the past couple of months and I'm glad to see it all gone. There's about 4 people I will really miss working with, we had some good laughs, but other than that, nothing, nada, zip, zero. The first time I quit Starbucks I told myself I'd never go back (the job itself isn't that bad, but it's retail and you don't make any money) and I did, but this time I believe I won't have to. Tuesday I start university and for the next three years I'll be dealing with that and lack of sleep. Once I'm done I'm going to have much better prospects and possible a job.

I almost feel like things are really getting started for me. This should have happened years ago, but it is now and I'm both super excited and so nervous I feel as if I could puke. Today I got an email from one of my teachers telling the class which textbook we needed to buy for next week and it really hit me that it's almost here. Also the textbook (okay, more like a notebook) is only $11, so I don't have to spend a bundle on it. That I have to do on art supplies.

And speaking of art supplies I saw this last night and it is literally like a dream come true:

I WILL HAVE THIS IN MY POSSESSION. YES I WILL. I DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH IT IS. I WILL HAVE YOU. YESSSS PRECIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS....

It would be super awesome if we could use this in second year, because that's when we do all our digital work. I'll get a brand spanking new Mac and tablet out of it and this would just be the icing on the cake. :D
bunnylove: (Default)
Yesterday I received my class schedule for school and honestly I'm torn between excitement and feeling like I want to throw up because of nerves. It's kinda weird because some days I'll have things end at about 4pm and then other days not until about 6-6:30; I guess I assumed it would be a standard 9-5 kind of thing, but either way I'm not worried about it. The first day I have to attend a University lecture/welcome about general campus things and then in the afternoon I get my orientation of the program and my new Nikon digital camera. >:D

I also discovered that I am allowed $500 tax credit or chunk of my loan or something of that sort towards computer equipment and software for school. I was actually thinking of possibly getting a netbook for class. First years don't get their own Mac's, so we all have to share the ones that are in the classroom. There'll be about 30 of us and only about 8 computers. I'm figuring it could be beneficial to getting things done quicker. I'd take the laptop I have now, but it's over 18.4" inches wide, heavy and isn't the most portable thing (plus I wouldn't have room on my desk). Does anyone own a netbook or know someone who does? How do you/they find them? I'm also glad to find out about the $500 because in Second Year you have to buy Photoshop with your own money. Bleh. I'd just rip the one I have but a) it's not the Mac version and b) I could get kicked out if I use a pirated one. Don't want to risk that.

Tuesday mum and I went to see Cowboys & Aliens. I barely knew the overall story and didn't read the graphic novel, but I knew that Fav was directing and the Spielberg was involved as well. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I felt there was something missing. Sam Rockwell was severely underused in this and I was disappointed there wasn't more of him. Daniel Craig's ass in those leather chaps were a thing of beauty though. LOL

So I'm completely obsessed with Michael Fassbender and his smoking. It's like some kind of porn in and of itself to me. Honestly, how can he make such a crap habit so sexy? IDK.
