Last night mum and I had a random visitor show up in our yard:
( +3 )
He was such a friendly doggie and he was just running around and came in and finished all the cat food in the bowls. After about half an hour the doggie was still hanging around, so mum and I checked to see if he had a tag, sure enough he did. His name was Nuka and it had his phone number, so I called and left a message telling the owners that he was here and could they please come and pick him up.
An hour goes by. Nothing. The owners have not phoned back or will answer the phone. We leave another message and hope that they'll call back soon. No luck. It's getting to be 10pm now and mum and I want this doggie to go home. He was super friendly and we loved him, but he was not a cat friendly dog, so with Eowyn and Tinkerbell around we couldn't have him here. I tied him to a rope and walked him around the block to see if his owner may be out looking for him. No such luck.
By then mum and I had left 4 messages on the answering machine and we haven't heard anything, so mum and I call the SPCA to see weather or not they could pick this dog up because we can't have him here with the kitties. They tell us no, everywhere is closed. We then call the district municipal office and ask if they can help us or maybe provide us with an address to take the dog home. Nope, no one can help us. Then we call a vets office that is open until midnight and they can't do anything as well.
So here it is almost 11pm now and we haven't heard anything from anyone. Mum and I are really starting to get a bit pissed off now because we want to go to bed and get the kitties in.
In one last ditch effort I try the number again and finally someone picks up. Problem, this person is mentally handicapped and I could hardly understand what they were saying. The girl said that she'd give me her mum's cell number and we could reach her there and then I ask for the address and I obviously heard wrong. I repeated it back to her and she said that was correct and then hung up. After about 10 minutes I try to call again and no one answered. We try her mum's cell and surprise it went to voice mail. Left a message asking if she could come and pick her dog up.
Another half an hour later we still heard nothing and we try the mother again. Nothing, just voice mail and mum is really starting to get angry. By now we've gotten Eowyn and Tinkerbell inside and Nuka is outside barking up a storm. Of course the dog could just leave, but he didn't. He just stuck around.
Now it's about 12:15am and Nuka is chasing raccoons around the yard and barking. Mum and I have had enough and we decide to drive the dog home ourselves. After trying to find this house for almost half an hour mum phones the mother's cell phone again and she answers. She told us the correct address and mum said if she could come meet us outside, because it was so dark we could hardly see any of the numbers on the houses (Nuka is in the back-seat this whole time just panting away). After 10 more minutes of driving around and wondering where the hell this house is and the lady we finally find the right house, but no one is home. It's now 12:30 at night and I have to go to the place and knock on the door and pray it's the right place.
The girl who is mentally challenged answered and I asked if this was her dog and she said yes. So I handed Nuka over to her and asked if her mum was there. She told me her mother was out. WTF?! My mum phones this woman and asks her to come get her dog and meet us in the driveway and nothing. This woman didn't even have the courtesy to say that she was out (and by the sounds of it obviously drunk or on drugs after my mum talked to her). I didn't want to get angry with the girl, she couldn't really do anything about it, plus I don't think she would really understand if I told her.
And the biggest thing is? After about 10 phone messages and repeated requests to come pick up their dog, we end up driving around the neighbourhood at 12:15 in the morning trying to find this house to take this dog back, we don't even get a call from anyone the next day saying thank you. Just one simple thank you would have made all the difference. It seriously burns me. This woman totally lied to us and didn't seem to give two shits about what was going on. Her daughter is home alone and doesn't have the mental capability to come and get her dog. It's just so stupid.
People just amaze me sometimes. Take some fucking responsibility for your dog. I was a dog owner for 10 years, we always took responsibility for Jackson and whatever he may have done.
So if Nuka shows up again mum and I are just going to take him to the shelter. The people at the shelter are nice and they can take care of him until someone comes and picks him up. We're not your dog sitter.
Mum got a package of strawberries and she found this huge mother in with them all.
We don't want to eat it. It's just such an awesome strawberry.
