BIRTHDAY! ZOO!!!

Ok, here is my post about the Zoo and my birthday. It may be a tad long, but hey! I don't care. lol You'll get to hear about what animals I got to touch and how my mala almost got stolen.
Tuesday morning mum wakes me up after about 5 hours sleep or less. But I don't care, it was my birthday and it was the zoo!
gremmie_goo, mum, and I all pile into the car and go to dads. He drove because he knew where the zoo was. For some bazaar reason he wouldn't take the highway, so we were lucky to even see the lion and tiger feeding when we arrived. *rolls eyes* I did get into the zoo for free, because I told her it was my birthday. All I had to do was show some ID and voila! Free zoo.
Leann and I rush to the lion and tiger area, where they had just started the feedings. We didn't get the best view, but oh my god. These animals are gorgeous. I cannot believe how believe how beautiful and powerful they are. They went right up to the fence and took the meat right out of their keeper's hands. Their paws are huge! When they stood up on their hind legs and put them on the fence it was awesome. After the feeding we talked with the hot keeper. He has two cats at home and a boa constrictor. But he's still hot.
I haven't seen real live lions and tigers in years. I think the last time I was at the zoo I was about 9 or something, so it was a real treat. It breaks my heart that they’re almost wiped out off the earth. How could something so amazing be this close to being gone?

This is the male lion standing up and having some lunch.

Simba! Ok, that’s not his name, but I called him that anyway.
The tigers

After the feeding we went and had a drink then headed to the Vivarium. It was like Where's Waldo? in there. There were two gators in a tank, but I only saw one. It wasn't until we got home that night and downloaded the pictures that I saw there was another one right beside it. LOL
A Golden Gecko

Then we went back out and visited the monkeys and saw the

Then began our long trek around the zoo. I'm so happy we had the perfect weather to go. It wasn't too hot and it wasn't raining. All I had to do was slap some sunscreen on me and I was good to go.
gremmie_goo wanted to go see all the new arrivals. We didn't see too many, but we did see a cute
bunny and a lynx.
We then arrived at the African Savannah, where there were Zebra's, Elands, Ostriches, and a bunch of other birds. There was a very friendly adult Eland that came right up to the fence and started rubbing its nose along it. I almost gave it a pat but then he started to rub his horns against the fence. They looked sharp, and I didn't feel like getting impaled on my birthday, but he was still very friendly. A pair of ostriches came up too. A mama and a baby, the baby was really curios and kept poking his head through the fence and looking at us. I tried to pat him but he kept moving all over the place. :P He was cute. The zebra,s were great too. One was grazing near by and the others were just running around the field looking for food.

Goo and I posing with our new friend.

We tried to call her over, but she just kept eating and ignoring us. lol
Then as we walked along we came to the camel area. One was in its house and mum went around back to look in, and he came out. He was a very friendly camel and mum kept petting him and telling him how pretty he was. He was so friendly, and so soft! He just came up to me and smelled my hand and I petted his nose. Didn't even try to spit (thank goodness). I've never gotten to pet a camel before, so this was so cool.

My mum and her new friend.

Leann took this picture of me and my new friend.
Then we walked along some more and looked at some Nilgai, Scimitar Horned Oryx, Pere David's Deer Black Fallow Deer, Zebu, Addax, Sika Deer, and Black Burros. We named the burrow Eeyore, because he looked so sad. We think he had a fight with his girlfriend who was down at the other end of their pen.

After that we came to the Arctic Wolves. They were beautiful! And they looked so much like Jackson, well Jack looks like them, his mother had a little bit of wolf in her. Gorgeous animals.
As we came to the Grizzly Bear pen, one of the zoo staff came and asked us if we'd like to go on a free bus tour. Dad got cranky at mum and asked her if she could pay his share. He obviously didn't get the word FREE. LOL Anyway, the bus went through the Grizzly pen, the Black Bear and Wolf pen, and the Roosevelt Elk, Bison, and Blacktail Deer pen. It was amazing. We got to drive up right next to the bears, who were about 5 feet away from the bus. They were all having or finishing up their lunch, so they didn’t even pay attention to us. There was one Black Bear named Albus whom I fell in love with. He is an albino Black Bear and is the rarest in the world. If I remember correctly he's the only one in captivity around the world. If you stuck a red shirt on him he would be Winnie the Pooh.
As we drove along we saw more Wolves, and then the Elk. There were 2 babies born there within the last 2 weeks. One was only 4 days old. The mothers had them hidden in the bushes, but I was able to spot the back on one. So cute, and so tiny. There was a Blacktailed Deer that the keeper had named Bob. The girl giving the tour said that they weren't the most creative at giving names. There was a huge Bison they had named Train, because he weighted as much as a train car. The also had named an Elk, Stick Boy, because when he had grown his first set of antlers they were so thin they looked like sticks.
When the tour was over the lady brought out an antler one of the largest Elk there had shed the other year. It was huge. It had to be more than 4 feet in height. I can’t see how they can carry these things on the top of their heads, and when the antlers are ready to fall off all they have to do is shake their head and they fall on the ground. Amazing.

This is Albus

The largest Elk in the enclosure.
After the tour I wanted to go see the Hippopotamus. The girl told us that if he comes close and starts wagging his tail then he would start flinging his dung at us. Lovely. LOL But unfortunately we couldn't see the Hippo too well. He had hidden himself under a tree in sort of a hole, so all we got to see was his ears and back. Looked like a giant rock.
Then we went on and saw the Aoudads. One was sitting right at the fence so mum and I went to pet it. It just sat there as we talked to it and said hi. I think dad thought we were crazy, but he was cute.
So we walked along and saw some more animals, we saw a nest with a swan egg in it. When we came up to it mum said 'omelette'. The swan was over having a drink, so it's a good thing it didn't hear that. Lol
We then went past the Savannah again, and mum made friends with another ostrich. She patted it and said hi, and then we went to the Jaguar pen. Such a beautiful cat, it was black, but you could see faint spots on it like a leopard. I don’t understand how it could be out in the sun, but then again, they do live in the jungle.
We skipped the baboons because
gremmie_goo was too chicken to see them. LOL We then went back and saw the Lions and Tigers (oh, my). We were a big confused because there was cougars on the map, but we weren’t sure where to go. Dad wanted to go back home and feed Jack (we had been at the zoo a good 3-4 hours then). But ignoring him we went and found the cougars. Such a pretty animal and a lot smaller then I thought they would be. I have never seen a cougar in real life before. Their size may be smaller than that of a lion or tiger, but once you look at those teeth, yeah, no less deadly.
After the cougar we saw some wild pigs, and then I spotted what I thought were Wombats, but when I ran up to them I saw that they were Capybaras. They are so damn cute, and they are the largest species of rodent in the world. They even have webbed feet because they spend their time in the wetlands in South America. One was right at the fence, and I almost got to touch it but it moved away before I could. Cute as hell. I want one.

Kitty.
Mum and dad came down and looked at them while Leann was MIA, but we didn't care about her, so we kept going (it's a joke, Goo LOL). We came to the Emu pen and met another friend. One was just lying right in the corner, and mum asked it for a feather, so it got up and started preening. Unfortunately the feather in its beak floated away before mum could get it. Then it just looked at us and came nearer. Cute little bugger started to peck mums hand. One of the keepers came by and started talking to us, he said the Emus name was Dumb (after Dumb and Dumber) and was hand raised, so that's why he was so friendly. I held out my hand and it pecked me. It felt so weird, like a pinch, but it didn't hurt. He was just checkin' me out. He pecked at my watch, then I held out my other hand and it grabbed onto my mala and started pulling! The bugger thought it was food I guess. He almost broke it too.
As we were talking to the keeper some more Dumb went back over to mum and she scratched its head and neck telling him what a pretty bird his is. As Leann and I were talking to the keeper I felt a tug at my wrist and the silly thing had grabbed hold of my mala again and was trying to steal it! Sneaky Emu. I got Leann to put her hand out and he pecked her, I would have thrown her into the pen too. Another joke, Goo. ;)

Leann took this pic of me gettin' pecked. lol
We walked back and met a Wallaby. Cute lil guy, and again I tried to get it to come over and pat it, but no success.
After I petted the Emu we looked at the Llamas and Flamingos and headed back. On our way back we went and saw the Giraffes. One was outside playing with a stick and the other was inside its house having some dinner. It was neat to see it eat, because they had put windows into its house so we could see it eating away. Such a tall and graceful animal. I have no idea how it manages with that neck, but hey, I guess that’s they way nature made them.
We then went and saw the White Rhino. It was hiding, so we didn't get a good look at it, but we did see the big red ball it plays with.

Leann wanted to go to the gift shop, so we headed there and she got a tiger and I got a cheetah. Then we went to the car and headed back to dads. I had so much fun at the zoo, and I’m glad that we went. Leann I think was gonna burst from all the excitement, it was fun to watch. Lol
We went home and fed Jackson and after much bitching about our feet dad took him out for a walk. Lol When he came back I opened my presents from him. He gave me:
Then we went to The Keg for dinner. It was yummy. I had a mudslide and steak for dinner. I was allowed anything I wanted. *G* I like being the birthday girl. The waiters came up with a piece of cake after dinner and sang to me. It was awesome, and they were all such hot waiters too!

gremmie_goo and I at dinner.
After dinner we went for a drive where we saw lots of bunnies. Jack was in the back of the car and I think he saw the bunnies. He wanted to go play with the bunnies. Lol
So we go back to dads and get mums car, then we go to Dairy Queen where I get my ice cream cake and head home. By the time we got home we didn't feel like cake ect, but we did have some ice cream. The kitties were mad at us I think. We were gone almost 12 hours. :P Ooops.

Pooh Bear!
Mum didn't have time to get my present on my birthday because it had come out that day, but yesterday we went and picked it up. She got me:
This was such a great birthday, and one I will soon not forget. I am so happy that Leann got to come, if not I don't think it would have been as fun. I just wish all my friends could have been with me. That would have been awesome.
I think that about covers it. My hand is starting to hurt from all this typing.
