bunnylove: (Holy Fuck Gerry)

I've been thinking a lot about this lately and I want to find out more about my heritage. To be more specific my Scottish heritage. My grandmother's maiden name was MacBeth (can't get more Scottish than that) and even though she died before I was born I want to find out more about where she came from and her ancestors. She was Canadian born, but someone had to be really Scottish to have the last name MacBeth.

Then what I would love to do is go to Scotland and see stuff about where I'm from. I was born with red hair and blue/green eyes, some have said I must be Irish, but nope (that I know of), I'm part Scottish. No one really knows where that part of me came from since my immediate family doesn't have red hair and blue/green eyes.

I think it'll be interesting. I remember my aunt doing research on our family history years ago, I wonder what she found out. I guess I should talk to her about it and my dad.

I wonder where I should start.

Maybe I'm related to Billy Boyd? That would be so cool!!!!! [/wishful thinking]

Red hair and blue/green eyes doesn't necessarily mean Irish, but it might mean you're Scotch Irish. And not having it in the rest of your family isn't that odd since they're both recessive genes. I have blue/green eyes, but everyone else in my family has brown eyes, it's just luck. My brother who has brown hair but grows red facial hair... maybe we're just weird ;)

I could ask my mom about the research, though. We've done a lot of research on our family history and she has some connections in that field (she's a museum) curator. I'm sure she could come up with some good tips.

Weird that my grandparents are going to a family reunion tomorrow to find out about this stuff. just odd.

That's awesome. Yeah, I'm the freak in the family. LOL But I guess whatever genes that were hidden decided to pop up on me.

That'd be great if you could has your mum about tips for reasearch. I'm going to be emailing my aunt and see what she has on our family. :)

Ha! My brother has brown hair but grows red facial hair too! But only on his chin, no wear else. He has hazel eyes, though. My dad had red hair and blue eyes, as do I. it's all so weird...

red hair/Irish

I do not understand people who assume everyone who has red hair must be Irish. I know 3 redheads outside of my family and none of them had any Irish blood.

Neither does my family. We are Norweigan, Swedish, and German. Both my older sister and I are redheads, but before us, you have to go to great grandmother.

That being said, Id say with a name like MacBeth, Id say you have some Scottish blood.

I'm prone to them, it's part of my depression. Yeh just don't get 1 symptom, yeh THE SECOND ONE AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. Joy.

I haven't had one for a while, they only come around when I'm under a lot of stress, but sometimes they can just come on. *shrug* It's already starting to go away, so I'll be alright.

LOL I've never had vicodin, but I hear it's wonderful.

I understand that, because it's what my mommy goes through. Her depression coupled with stress leads to bad anxiety. :( *hugs tight*

Vicodin is loverly. But it makes me very strange. I mean, stranger than usual. Mwah! And my whole body is sort of numb and floaty feeling!

Red hair is wierd in that it usually skips a generation. Like my grandfather had red hair, but my parents don't.

And like stated above, blue eyes are recessive...unless you are part of my family, in which brown eyes are the odd thing (my grandmother, my mother and me on both sides of very large families).

My last name is Scottish, so I have a little mixed in there. They came to Canada as well. Apparently I have lots of family that I've never met in Canada, and a woman (fourth cousin of mine or something?) also did research on the family a few years ago...

Wouldn't it be weird if we were like...distantly related? o.O

I'm Scottish too! Ireland isn't the only place that produces red hair! I wish I could see what our clan was, but all we have is the family crest. I would love to totally pimp my clan...I love to wear plaid, anyhow.
I am Scottish, German, Welsh, English...I can't quite remember right now.

I have red hair and blue eyes. My dad does also, but I'm the only child that inherited the red hair/blue eyes/freckles.

My grandma (on my other side, from Germany) paid a few bucks for someone to research that side of the families history...she got names dating back to 1100-ish. It was insane. It's so interesting, though. If you're curious, you should definelty look it up.

'Out, out damn spot!'

Sorry, had to say that. LOL But that would be a cool thing to do. There's something called Ancestry.com that can help, but they charge a fee. Or maybe to some research at a Hall of Records type facility where you live.

I know on my mom's side of the family there's Italian, French, different Native American tribes(same with my dad, the Native American part), Irish, Brit, Japanese and more stuff. LOL This could be really interesting to see where you came from. I have the same thing with the hair and eyes. My hair is light brown, have green eyes and light complexion, where as my immediate family have dark hair and eyes and medium to dark complexions(except my dad, his eyes were hazel).

Well, good luck with the research Highland lass. ;o)

Take Care!

Do you know it's bad luck to say Macbeth backstage before a rehearsal/performance? Ah, the things you learn in theatre. We actually tested it during a dress rehearsal for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (being dumb, and not believing it) and had some really frightening things happen that night. Which was creepy. (For example: A 200 lb set piece, which was very well secured, came crashing down and narrowly missed both of the leads, and a little later another girl fell down the stairs onstage.) And this is the second time I've spammed you with randomness in one evening. Sorry!

Yes, it is a very Scottish (and quite spiffy) name.

Anyway, I think researching your history is such a cool idea. Besides, it's Scotland, and that would be such an amazing place to look into things! And don't forget, not only did it provide the wonderful Billy Boyd, Scotland also gave us Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, and...Gerard Butler. Hot men in kilts? The possibilities are endless!

It honestly was so creepy. After rehearsal we felt guilty, so we told our teacher (who really isn't superstitious) that one of the guys jokingly said it, and she yelled at us. It's almost funny to look back on it, but at the time, none of us had ever seen her quite so upset. Especially about something like that. No idea where the jinx originated, though. Tis all that silleh Shakespeare's fault! :D

Indeed, Scotland has given much joy to many-a-fangirl. I say flaunt your heritage with all you've got, dahling! <3

I think learning about family history is so interesting. Just takes a lot of time to do all that searching, but interesting nevertheless. Especially with a Scottish background!
Scotland fucking rocks (as does your icon *drool*, Gerard in Timeline is oh so yummy!) If you ever get to go back to the motherland, definitely check out Edinburgh..and St Andrews is good for a day trip (especially if your a golf fan, it's where it all began). Also, you should go check out the castle where they filmed most of Monty Python & The Holy Grail (unfortunately I wasn't able to make it there)!
