I will be okay with The Hobbit as long as WETA will be doing the special effects.... if not then I will be HORRIBLY displeased and more than likely I will not see the film. I have great respect for WETA and I highly enjoy their talent. 'Twould be a shame if New Line didn't hire WETA again.
Yes, it is a pity PJ will not be directing LOTR but there are other directors out there who also can do wonderful adaptations of books (Chronicles of Narnia comes to mind).
But, dude.. a pre-prequel? I guess the writers will have to go to Christopher Tolkien for that information considering JRR Tolkien didn't write about the passage of time between The Hobbit and LOTR.
Yeah, I don't think anyone could do The Hobbit justice but WETA. They just went beyond anything for that.
I didn't think they were working on a pre-prequel. I just hope they don't keep putting out movies based from Middle Earth and ruin the magic for the first 3.
Several years ago, Mark Ordesky told us that New Line have rights to make not just The Hobbit but a second "LOTR prequel", covering the events leading up to those depicted in LOTR. Since then, we've always assumed that we would be asked to make The Hobbit and possibly this second film, back to back, as we did the original movies.
I'm not sure what this "second" movie would be about but I agree with you. They should not make movies based on Middle Earth that haven't been written by JRR Tolkien or Christopher Tolkien. The movies would just get the same reactions the 'The Land Before Time' movies get now: There's ANOTHER one?!
Oh that just horrible! I really was looking forward to the Hobbit, to be directed by PJ. *sigh* that is just sad. I haven't been keeping up much with the LOTR world lately, so I din't know there was any conflicts with New Line.
You know I was dissapointed too on how TT and ROTK was done, but I still enjoy them. THere is nothing like FOTR though, that remains my favorite movie still. I do hope that WETA is still involved other wise the movie is really going to suck! Look what WETA did with Narnia.
We can only hope that the Hobbit (even though is not directed by PJ) that it still has the majic that LOTR has had for all of us.
