I haven't been that well since about Friday night (in the past 32 hours I've consumed 8 digestive biscuits, 2 pieces of toast and some apple sauce). Mum's been sick most of the week with something and I guess I got it or I ate the same thing she did. I called in sick to work yesterday (OMG I ONLY HAVE 3 MORE SHIFTS AND THEN I'M FINISHED!!!! MUAHAHAHA!) and today I thought I'd suck it up and go in. Instead of taking my usual bus home dad came to pick me up since I bribed him with a cookie (seriously, I had to buy him a cookie) and he knew I wasn't feeling well. On our way home we went through an intersection and there was this crow just smack dab in the middle of it. It wasn't flying away or hopping around, it was just standing there looking terrified as cars passed it by. I made dad pull over because it was obvious that something was wrong with it. Before I could get back to the intersection though some guy pulled up to it and honked at it and it flew about 20 feet and then just crashed down back on the road. The poor things wing looked kind of mangled. Since this was the opposite side of the street I made dad turn around and take me back. When we got back there there were two people out near it trying to catch it with a towel, but being a bird and not understanding that we wanted to help it just kept flapping and hopping away. I tried to catch it with a cloth grocery bag, but then it fluttered under a parked truck.

In the end we couldn't catch it and while I wish I could have helped more I am glad that we were able to get it out of the intersection so it couldn't get squished by a car.

Today has been an interesting/nice day. Tinkerbell decided to go on a bird spree and caught three birds today. Two were saved and released successfully, but the third one we had to take out to the bird hospital. When mum had picked the bird up it one of it's legs was busted and bleeding. We didn't want to release it into the wild because we didn't want it to suffer or be caught by something else. I'm glad we took it to the hospital, they said that the bird had a broken leg, so they gave it some fluids, pain meds and put a splint on it. They're going to take it to a rehab centre where it can get better. That makes me feel good, because I know it wouldn't have sat easy with me if we just let it go. While we were at the bird hospital we met a very friendly cockatoo named Chloe and a giant Amazon (I think it was an Amazon) parrot named Alfie. Both such gorgeous birds and Chloe got angry every time we walked away from her. :P

After saving the bird mum and I went and had some nice diner food at Denny's. We also called around to a few ads we saw in the paper for rentals, so maybe something will come out of it.

Tinkerbell has been a bad girl. :( She brought me a Thrush (at least I believe that's what they are...). Now these aren't the bite sized birds she's been getting in the past, these are big (for her). The poor thing, it was so traumatized that it flew into my room. I luckily managed to shut my door and window and boot Moe out, but the thing had wedged itself between two boxes. :( I opened my sliding door outside and managed to grab the bird (with my hands) and it flew out my door. It was so dazed it could barely fly a straight line. The only thing that worries me about it is that before it flew out of my hands the back of the thing was completely bald. I guess Tink can't grab it like the others and she just gets it on the back and all the feathers kinda came out. I'm worried that with it being cold out it'll be too cold and in trouble. I saw it fly into a bush, so mum and I are going to look for it when she get's home. Right now Tink and Moe are currently in lock down.

This morning around 8:30 I was woken up to crashing and bouncing and flapping of kitties in the sun room. Tinkerbell had been bringing us birds (tiny ones) the past couple of days so I assumed it was one of those and I hoped I wasn't too late to save it. Both Moe and Tink were behind one of the curtains having fun with a bird, only it was a much larger bird then they normally like to play with. Somehow a Blue Jay (mum and I call them that even if they're technically a Steller's Jay) got into the house. Now I don't know if it came in because it was curious or because Tinkerbell chased it in, my guess would be the latter, but in any case this was not a tiny bird. I tried to catch it but the poor thing was just flapping around scared shitless. Finally it settled on top of a small lamp that is above our kitchen sink and proceeded to leer at everyone (can you blame it?). Tink tried to get it again but didn't have any luck so she lost interest, Moe just kept staring and trying to get up there so I had to wait until he felt the need to move along. After some minutes of waiting Moe lost interest and moved onto eating. The bird wasn't moving a muscle so I thought it may be hurt, but when I went up to it moved it's head to look at me. This following one sided conversation then proceeded:

Me: Okay, I'm just going to throw this tea towel over you. I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to help.
Jay: Bite me
Me: Okay, here we go. *grabs tea towel*
Jay: I dare you to try
Me: *freaks out* So I'm not going to throw this on you. Can I pick you up?
Jay: Hell no.
Me: *thinks*

Hell if I'm going to handle this thing, it could really hurt my hand with that sharp beak. After a few minutes of brain storming I get the broom and poke it with handle. That seemed to work. :D It flew out of the kitchen window and seemed fine, well except for being harassed by two cats and stuck in some strange house.

Eowyn just came in and brought mum a present. A small wing. From a bird. Not the bird, but the wing. Just came in her room and plunked it down on her bed.

....

So. Where's the rest?

o.O

I swear to god my backyard is the crossroads/highway for everything not human. We even have sea gulls starting to hang around.
