I still can't quite believe it and neither can my parents. We're still in shock about the whole thing. My dad's doing a lot better than mum and I thought. It's going to be hard for him because it was just him and Jack at his place. I've had my moments today where I want to phone up and see how he is, but then I think "oh, right" and try to get past it.

Some people may thing 'it was just a dog', but as a lot of pet owners know that it's more than that. They affect our lives so much that it's really amazing how much it hurts when they leave us. He was my first dog. I got him when I was 12. My family has been blessed that we had him despite the trials we faced. We haven't had a loss in the family for a very very long time, so really this is the first passing that I've had to deal with as an adult.

For those of you who are curious, he got very sick very very fast. He was in a lot of pain and couldn't walk and it was just the humane thing to do. It didn't make a lot of sense to spend hundreds of dollars to prolong his life when he wasn't going to be happy. The vet said it could be a number of things, but we just don't know exactly what. Even the vet was crying with us yesterday, that's how much he affected everyone.

Thank you everyone, it meant a lot to hear what you had to say. I still don't feel like discussing it much, so again, please don't take it personally if I don't reply.

Last night and today I worked on my layout. I needed to take my mind off of things. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but the only thing I don't like is that I can't use the customized comments page because the original layout was made for free/paid users.

Aye, avast!: [livejournal.com profile] leggyslove

It looks better in Firefox. There are still some bugs that need to be fixed for the IE view.

Eowyn's been missing since yesterday afternoon.

Lovely layout. :)

I hope you find Eowyn. :)

Maybe she has a stomach bug or something? Have you changed her diet at all?

Thanks.

I presume Eowyn is fixed? In which case, it sounds like she's found a human friend to give her treats. You might ask your neighbors about her frequency at their houses.

Yeah, she's spayed. She likes to go down to this one house a couple of doors down. They were out today so I couldn't ask them, but I may go down there a little later.

*hugs* You're so right, pets are just not animals, they are our friends and companions. Your Jack will be missed by you and your family, but you'll see him later, on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. And I hope you find Eowyn soonish!

*hugs* I know exactly how you feel - me and my family went through the exact same thing about a year and a half ago. Our dog was doing so well for his age - he was about 14 - and all of a sudden he got very sick and went downhill very fast, and we had to let him go. We'd had him since I was about 10, he was very much a part of the family :(
And I know this is going to sound very trite, but it will get better with time. *hugs again*

Thanks, it means a lot and helps with all your support.

Did Eowyn come back and then hightail it again?

Yep. I'm not as worried about it as last time, but still you worry like every mommy does. I think she has found a hidey hole or home or something. Either way grounding her didn't work.

Pets are so more than 'just animals'. The two dogs we have love annoying me! And Yoda (he's a pug) makes faces and everything. especially while laughing at me ... the meanie!

Eowyn must have found some kitty club or something ... zomg Eowyn's gone clubbin! Looking forward to the post that'll say she just came waltzing back in like she did nothing wrong ^__^

And the layout - awesome! Ooooooh you should see the latest issue of Rolling Stone. Well, I don't know if it's on stands yet (we have a subscription) but oh was I ever happy to see it on my desk - JOHNNY DEPP IN CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW GARB! With a sword! All on the cover! Oh oh oh and that 2-page image of him lounging at the front of the article *DROOL* I don't care he's 43 - let me at him!

You so need this issue for teh pretty ^__^

I had to do the very same thing a few years ago. Sadie, my black lab, got very sick, very quickly, with a fast-growing tumor. Even withi surgery, she would not have survived very long. I did what I knew was the best thing for her: peace and rest with no pain. I like to think that she's somewhere in the Happy Hunting Grounds in the sky, chasign squirrels. People who use the line "just a pet" obviously have no clue.

It will be hard for a while. Take comfort in the fact that you did wht you needed to do for his own peace and rest. ::huge hugs::

There is no way a pet you had for so many years can be "just a dog". Your pets are as close to some as their own children -- they're a part of the family. Many of my friends have had pets for all their lives and I know how their pets affect them. They talk about them like their people.
*hugs*

And Eowyn snuck off again??? I hope you find her!! You need a tracking device or something (not meaning to joke about something serious, but seriously, a tracking device works wonders. My friends have one in their dog and it's amazing).
I guess she's been wandering off for some reason -- maybe she adopted some babies and she's been taking care of them somewhere. :O
But I'm sure she'll be back soon!

And the new layout looks fantastic!!! I love the little crosshairs when you scroll over a link. :) And sexy pirate men is always a plus.

*sad sigh* Aw Bon, I'm so sorry. Thanks for giving a bit more explanation; I know I was like "WHAT?!?!?" when I saw the previous post. :( And as far as microchipping goes; I just had all four of my pets microchipped when I took them to the vet, and the grand total (including their regular shots) was over $400US. So I think its moderately expensive...but I tell ya what, as soon as I get my own internet (since right now I'm stuck at the library) I shall send you some money, k? I owe you a really belated birthday gift anyway.
Take care. ****HUG****
