It has officially been one week at school and I've had every class except for one (life drawing). So far so good... only thing is that I have about 10 assignments due or to be worked on. A lot of them are spread out, so at least I have time and the mental capacity to do them all, if they were all due within the next week or two I think I'd cry. I had my first photography class yesterday and I loved it. I've always loved photography and now to be able to get into the nitty gritty of it and learn about all the technical stuff is awesome. I can already tell that this will be one of my favourite classes.

One of my least favourite classes is my communications class. It's a requirement so I can't pass the course without it. Writing is a huge component to a design/illustration career, so I am happy to be learning the skills, but some of the stuff is annoying. Ah well, you always have to take the good with the bad, yes?

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] oohasparklie, I also found out today that we're probably taking a class trip to Portland at the end of February. We'll only be there two days, but I was thinking that maybe.... ;) Also in 3rd year we get to go to New York for a week. I'm super stoked for this because that means that I could see Daisy again. <333

Has anyone read the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger? I'm in the middle of the newest one and I just found something out about one of my favourite characters and I feel the need to fangirl with someone.

I also feel the need to post this pic of Michael Fassbender from the TIFF press conference for Shame, because this is now one of my faves ever:

I'm in absolute agony with my back. This is the worst its been in years and I can barely walk, move or do anything for that matter. The best part? My portfolio is due tomorrow and this has slowed me down so much trying to assemble everything and look good. I'm probably going to the clinic tomorrow or something after dropping off my portfolio. I just hope it doesn't cost me too much time from work because I can't afford it.

I will gladly take back rubs and cookies.

An in other news, I have jumped on the bandwagon and am now reading A Game of Thrones. Haven't seen the show yet, don't know when that'll happen.

American Gods may be a mini series on HBO. HBO + Neil Gaiman (with possible Tom Hanks) = FUCKING AWESOME! A co-worker and I both love Neil Gaimen and we had discussed that one movie wouldn't do justice to the book but a mini series would be best. When I first read AG it quickly became one of my all time faves.

And, uh, this also happened today:

I love my Merlin, but I feel like I need a fresh spring layout for my journal. However I am having a hard time choosing what I should make. I think of making a Fringe one, but then I think of making a Tangled one. I cannot decide, so here is a handy poll to help me decide (or if you just like filling out polls that's fine too).

[Poll #1729818]

I also finished reading all of The Hunger Games: there be spoilers )

Has anyone see this Extreme Couponing show on TLC? I gotta say I'm kinda scared of these people and also pissed off. I'm all for saving money and stuff, but the amount of some of the things they have is just stupid. And what's worse some of them just buy the stuff because they can get a deal and don't need it/use it. I know some donate what they buy to charities/food banks, but c'mon, you don't need a year and a half worth of diapers when you yourself have no kids. Or 1,000 tubes of toothpaste.
bunnylove: (Fringe → Olivia)
Today I went to register at the university for readmission. I had to before the 31st for the fall term, so now I can work on assembling my portfolio. I have to hand it in at the end of April, so I'm ok time wise, but I am already having nightmares about it all. The other night I had a dream that I submitted my old portfolio for some reason and after realizing this I had to search for it in my old elementary school (???). I don't know how it turned out, but I doubt that something like that will happen. I also have to get two letters of reference for my application and I've never had to do that before so I am a bit nervous about it. I don't really know who to ask; the list gave an example of using a teach or mentor, but I don't really have that. The teachers I had over the summer program also teach in the 3 year program that this is all for, so I don't know if they're even allowed to write a letter of reference. I'll have to think hard *sits on log like Pooh Bear*.

I have also fallen in love with the movie Tangled. I think that this is now in my top five fave Disney movies (excluding Pixar). I knew it would be enjoyable but I had no idea I'd love it so much. I want to be a long lost princess and find a hunky guy to marry. DISNEY, WHY YOU MAKE RL SEEM SO HORRIBLE IN COMPARISON?

Last night I finished reading The Hunger Games. I was hesitant to pick it up at first because all the YA stuff out there right now is just vampires and werewolves, but this was surprisingly refreshing. I enjoyed the darker edge to it and the heroine not all love struck and fawning over some guy where she can't have a relationship with. I think I may start reading the next book tonight.
bunnylove: (Happy Holiday Doggie!)
elvensapphireMy Wifey, I received your card today!!!! Which is odd since there is no post on Sunday's, but it is only because no one checked the mail box on Friday, so YAY!!! Thank you very much. It is now with my other cards. ♥ ♥ ♥

I hope everyone had a good or a relatively good Christmas. Mine was actually pretty good; I wasn't really expecting much (both out of the actual holiday/presents), but overall it was nice. Mum and I stayed home and did nothing and dad came over for Christmas Eve/Day. We basically ate, watched TV/movies, ate, slept and ate some more.

Now the oblig present moment:

You sometimes when you make up a Christmas list and you put down something that you're 99% sure you won't get, but thought you'd put down anyway? Or just set yourself up for relatively low expectations overall? That's kind of how I was feeling about some stuff on my list; most of the stuff I put on I knew I had a fair chance at getting, but a couple of items I was like 'that'll never happen, but whatever. *writes it down anyway*. Yeah, well that 1% did happen because my dad got me two things I didn't really think he would.

1st: the Kobo eReader. It's so cute and tiny and cute and book-like. :D It's more of a basic eReader with not a whole lot, but for what I want/need it for it'll do perfectly. I also know 100% that this will work within Canada. I got so confused looking at other eReaders on the market and hearing that they worked fine in Canada and then hearing they didn't and people had a lot of hassles with them. So there we are. I also got gift cards to the book store where I can buy books/ebooks and now I cannot make my mind up as to what I want now. *headdesk. The cool thing is with the Kobo is that they pre-load 100 classic novels (i.e. Sherlock Holmes, Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, War and Peace ect.) onto it when you buy it, so even if I cannot make my mind up as to what I want to buy I do have a lot of choices to choose from right now.

2nd: SEASON 1 OF SHERLOCK (BBC) ON DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Since the invention of boxed set tv seasons my dad has never once bought me one before even though they show up on my lists every year. I am very excited. :D

But I think the best present of all is the pair of slippers my mum bought me from Superstore (like WalMart). She got me these nice light grey slippers that can be worn both inside and outside, but she realized when she was wrapping them on Christmas Eve that she picked up one Large sized slipper and one Small sized slipper. XD So now I have a slipper for one foot.

Today I had to work the Boxing Day morning shift. I haven't worked a Boxing Day in about 4/5 years and I remember why I hate to. The second we opened our doors at 7AM it was lined up to and pretty much out the door from that point on. It was crazy. PEOPLE, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO SLEEP IN ON BOXING DAY!!! I hate working retail on occasions like that. For those of you who may not be familiar, Boxing Day in Canada is like shopping on Black Friday in the US, tons of deals/sales go on and it's nuts. I had to get up at 5:30am this morning (I have not been up that early for any purpose in years) and I fully support that 5:30am should be illegal. I am going to bed soon and it's probably the earliest I've been to bed since I was, like, 10 years old. Can you tell I'm a night person? :P

I didn't have any books near me, so I went into my room and grabbed the book closest to me when I walked in the door.

"Thank you for your kindness," she said. Sophie-Anne's pride was hurting in a major way. She had to struggle to paste that smile back on her face. "I believe you know Andre," she continued. "Andre, you now know Joseph. And I believe all of you know our Sookie."

The phone rang, and since I was closest to it, I answered it.

"Am I speaking to a member of the Queen of Louisiana's party?" the gruff voice asked.

[livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk, I received the book yesterday! Thank you so much, I cannot wait to read it. :)

Speaking of reading, I finished the first Percy Jackson and the Olympians book. I enjoyed it a lot and liked the idea of all the Greek mythology. Not my favourite, but I probably will read the next one at some point.

I'm pretty addicted to Tumblr and all the stuff on there. I love just posting random crazy shit and looking at pretty things.

Now to get ready to get my passport photos taken and go out to dinner. Dad's taking us out for a late birthday dinner in honour of mum's birthday that was on Tuesday.

With seeing the ads for the Percy Jackson film it got me thinking about maybe picking up one of the books. I know they're YA novels, but are they any good and would adults enjoy them? I always love Greek mythology and the premise looks kind of interesting.

Thank you! :D

I got my Complete Sherlock Holmes books today in the mail! I'm nerdtastically excited about them. They're two volumes and they're for students (so they were super cheap), so they have footnotes and glossaries and stuff with all of it and I am maybe a bit too excited about all this. YAY 4 LERNINGZ!!!

I went a picked up a second hand copy of Hound of the Baskervilles after I saw the movie. I always knew who the character Sherlock Holmes was, but never read any of the books, so when I saw the movie and fell in love with it, I was all 'MUST READ BOOKS!' I finished HoB and LOVED it. It's now, I think, in my top 10 favourite books now. :D

Small spoiler for anyone who has not read Hound of the Baskervilles )

Um, there was more I was going to say I think, but dinner is beeping at me and I'm hungry.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. I had a nice one, way better than last years. The weather was gorgeous and even though we didn't have a white Christmas it was nice. Dad spent the night at our place since he doesn't like being alone on Christmas, plus it saved mum and I getting up super early to go over to his place for breakfast and presents. Christmas Eve we watched A Muppets Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful Life, I love those movies so much. The lasagne I made was also a big hit, so yummy and so much left over that we'll have it for a few more days.

I made eggs Benedict for breakfast and it was super yummy. I don't eat pork any more so I bought some of that turkey bacon and I really liked it. I'll definitely use it again. After breakfast/brunch we just vegged for a bit, then dad had to leave to go to a friend of a family's Christmas dinner. Mum and I then went to go down to visit my grandma in the hospital (she's in the extended care unit). This is the first Christmas my grandma couldn't attend my aunts dinner. She's 92 and is basically invalid and yesterday we found out that she barely speaks any more. We think because she can't really hear much any more she doesn't understand and doesn't know how to respond. Either way it was a nice visit and we gave her some treats. After that we went to my aunts for the traditional dinner and family visit/present exchange.

So yes, very nice Christmas and I'm glad it went off so well.

And of course the traditional list of swag from the foam:

- Four Books (Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella, Frostbitten by Kelley Armstrong, Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris)
- DVD's/Blu Ray: The Proposal, Sleeping Beauty (Disney) and Julie & Julia
- A scarf and socks
- Some bath stuff (hand cream, soap, lip balm ect.)
- $50 gift certificate to Old Navy
- $50 gift certificate to Penningtons
- A nice fleece vest*
- Chocolates
- Movie passes (which will come in handy since mum and I will probably got see a movie on New Years)

So really it wasn't a bad haul and mum's going to get me season four of SPN, she ran out of time to go get it, so I have that to look forward to in the next few weeks.

*The vest... This is kind of a funny story. A few weeks ago I went to Old Navy to get mum a fleece jacket because they were dirt cheap and could afford one for her. The fleece jacket I picked out was a nice dark grey and very comfy. Christmas morning when mum opened hers up she loved it, but I could also sense that something was 'off'. Anyway, I didn't pursue the issue until I opened up my vest from mum. It turns out it was the exact same fleece jacket (colour, material ect) that I got mum, only it was a vest. *facepalm* We had no idea that we had gotten each other almost the same thing. I guess we know each other pretty well. Now we can go out in our almost matching clothes! :D

Like I said, I hope everyone had a good holiday! Also, Happy Boxing Day to all those who have Boxing Day. :)

Boxing Day

Happy Boxing Day to all those who have it! It's snowing sideways right now. Honestly, this snow is just unbelievable. Never have I seen snow like this before here, if it doesn't stop then I'm sure my mum and I will be living in a igloo soon.

I'm glad that it seems that everyone had a nice Christmas. You all deserve it.

I don't want to say that my Christmas was bad, but it wasn't great either. The power went out the night before and my mum and I were going to pack all the food up and go over to my dad's so we could cook and have Christmas there, but then the power came back on, so we were able to cook here. My dad got stuck in the snow trying to get to our place instead and by the time everyone was in and settled we didn't get our breakfast until about 1pm. Then we opened presents and all that. I got some nice things from my mum and dad (although I know my mum was only able to afford a little bag of chocolates for me). I got a few books: Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote, Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann and The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. I also got some DVD's: The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray and Tropic Thunder. My main gift was a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet. Yay! There's no way anyone in my family can afford an Intuos tablet, so I will happily take this one. I tried it last night and it's weird at first, but so far so good. I need to practice more on it before I am totally comfortable in writing/drawing/colouring/whatever. Mum and I still need to go down to my Aunts and exchange presents with them, so I'll be getting a few things more, but overall I'm satisfied.

The rest of the day we just watched movies and stuff. My dad... my dad was ok at first when he showed up, but then his mood soured and he just kinda put a damper on everyone. He's been going through a rough time lately, which we can understand, but he has to drag everyone down with him and act like a baby when he doesn't get his way. He got all pissy when he didn't see dinner being started by about 6 pm. Well then he could start it, mum and I weren't even hungry. He was supposed to go to a family friends for dinner, but he cancelled because he thought that mum and I would need a place to stay for the day since our power was out. That was nice of him to consider us, but you know what? He could have easily gone to his friends for dinner since our power came back on, but instead he decided to sulk and make mum and I unhappy because he didn't get his way or we didn't pack up and go to his place for dinner. By the time he left mum and I just felt so much lighter and we just went back inside to watch another movie.

Ahhh, family. What holiday wouldn't be complete with some sort of drama?

There were nice moments to the day and overall we had a nice time, I just felt emotionally exhausted by the end of the day.

Now we're just going to watch TV and watch the sideways snow outside. It's a freaking blizzard again. o.O
bunnylove: (BSG - Wicked Happy Toaster Love)
I GOT A SNOW CONE MAKER TODAY!!!! Twenty bucks at Wal-Mart! And it's pink. Mum and I just made Pepsi slushies. I also got a new pair of super light weight cotton PJ pants. I needed a new pair because it's been so hot out and the ones I did have kinda went boom. Like boom the way Jared's jeans went in the season two gag reel. Who knew bending down to pick up your cat would destroy a perfectly good pair of PJ bottoms?

The mall I went to also had a psychic fair on all week and today was the last day. When I got there I was deciding who to see (they have several different people with different mediums), and I was pretty sure I would go with a taro reading, but there was this nice woman, Maureen who was free right away and so I sat down with her. Whether you believe in that sort of thing or not it was a really interesting experience. She had some pretty accurate stuff to say. She wasn't like 'Your favourite colour is pink and you went to this high school' ect. She was more in tune with energies and auras and things like that. We talked about certain things and she said she got certain images in her mind. Nothing super specific, but she did say that she saw me in London at some point. If I was visiting or living there she didn't know, but I was just super stoked that she saw me in London. :D Here's something [livejournal.com profile] gremmie_goo will get; she asked me if I had an affinity to sheep and some sort of herding dog(s). That was kind of creepy and awesome.

I've almost finished reading Shadow's Return by Lynn Flewelling. I love it and I don't want to see it end. :( I'm also glad I took my time with it because I know I could have easily finished reading it in one big go. Now all I have to do is wait for the next book next year.

I'm re-watching the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica. I just finished season one the other day. I can never get over how awesome and mind blowing this show is. I wish we didn't have to wait until next year for the second part of season 4, but at the same time I never want it to end.

Yesterday was my cousin's seventh birthday and my mum and I drove out to Delta to have a big family BBQ and visit (and to also get the rest of my birthday pressies). I met Liam, my newest cousin who is exactly four weeks old. He was just darling. But the best part is? He seems to have reddish blonde hair. No one except for me in the family has that hair colouring. It comes from my mum's side, but it doesn't show up that much. If his hair stays relatively the same colour then I won't be the only red head in the family.

I recently stumbled onto a fantasy series that I am absolutely enrapt with. It's the The Doctrine of Labyrinths series by Sarah Monette. The first book is called Mélusine and at first I wasn't too thrilled with it. I admit the first half of the book kind of drags and I found myself thinking 'I probably won't enjoy the rest'. I was wrong. The second half of the book is awesome and a whole lot more thrilling than the first half. It really picks up where the two main characters (they're half brothers) meet for the first time. The second book in the series, The Virtu is by far my favourite. I just don't want it to end. One of the brothers is gay and there is a little hot gay wizard sex in it, so if you like that go for it. The author writes her characters beautifully, the books are told from each brothers point of view. It may seem confusing when you first pick it up and flip through the book, but it fits and works so well. They're a fun read to take to the beach or just sit in bed with on a rainy day. :)

In sexier news, this preview pic of Jensen on the SPN Media website makes my girl bits go KA-BLAM!!!!

I meant to post about this earlier, but I was lazy and yeah... But anyway, Monday night [livejournal.com profile] gremmie_goo and I went to see a talk/book signing by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love. We attended the pre-reception and had some yummy appetizers). Then after that the talk started and we had a great time. Then she signed everyone's books and if we wanted a picture with her afterwards we were welcome to hang around. [livejournal.com profile] gremmie_goo were basically the only ones left after the signing to get a piccie and I'm glad we stayed. She's such a great lady and so kind an down to earth. We basically told how much we enjoyed reading the book and how it's given us insight to change our own lives.

She's also a Heroes fan! She said in her talk how her sister gave her the first season on DVD and how she was watching it. We told her it just gets better and then I showed her my 'Vote Petrelli' button and she thought that was awesome. All in all it was a very enjoyable evening and both [livejournal.com profile] gremmie_goo and I were glad we went. We got our tickets just before the event sold out, so we were really lucky.

I put more photos up on Facebook if anyone wants to see more.

I want to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Jared Padalecki and his now finance Sandy. Jared confirmed the he popped the question! Awwww. :) I kinda figured after seeing that huge rock on her finger when those pictures of them at that basketball game came out.

Honestly our weather is on crack or something. Last night when mum picked me up from work it was snowing. Snowing and as we got up to the higher levels it was really snowing. So much that it was hard to even see 20 feet in front of you while driving. Today it is sunny/cloudy and is cold, but the snow is melting. I WANT IT TO WARM UP! *ducks flying objects from people back east*

Tomorrow night [livejournal.com profile] gremmie_goo and I are going to see Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love talk and going to reception afterwards. I'm really excited about this because I enjoyed her book a lot and to meet the author of it is kinda fun.

New Hulk trailer! I honestly have no interest in the Hulk whatsoever, but frak me, Edward Norton looks smoking. And Hi! Liv Tyler! I will be seeing this just for the sex factor, who cares if the movie is crap or that one of the last people I would ever think to be the Hulk would be Edward Norton.

I'm reading a really awesome book right now called Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella (the Shopaholic author). I definitely recommends it if you're looking for something light and fun to read.

I'm cold and I'm tired, so it's off to bed I go.

[livejournal.com profile] gremmie_goo, your card arrived although I'm not sure when because mum opened it and then kinda didn't tell me it was here, so she obviously had a plan to get me upset with you and break up our friendship. Luckily that backfired and everything is good, so thank you and The Ark.

My mum also got me new PJ's today; they're nice and warm and pink. :D My mum was also in the dollar store today getting some stuff and she saw personalized key chains, but they didn't have my name or hers, so she thought she'd get dad (his name is Dave/Fashar) one as a cheap stocking stuffer. When she got home she realized that she picked up the wrong name, so my dad will be getting a personalized key chain with the name Dana on it.

I finally got my hair cut! It was getting way to long and starting to look like The Pasdar Hair of Awesome, now it's shorter and more manageable. The only thing is that when my mum and I came home she said, "you realize we have the totally same hair cut?". Then I proceeded to sob and curse God at my fate. Ok, not really, but they are very similar cuts and I guess my hairdresser kinda goes on autopilot or something when she cuts my mum's hair and then when I said shorter she kinda did the same thing. Maybe next time I'll just get a buzz cut.

I originally rec'ed this book, Wicked Lovely, to [livejournal.com profile] elvensapphire, but being the stalker she is she had read it a few days earlier and was going to rec it to me, so now I'm going to rec it to you! It's a YA novel about faeries and romance and all that. It's got a bit of a Twilight vibe, but not as emo. It's an easy read, so if you like faeries I think you'd like it.

Does this mean we're all Russian now? I wasn't all happy with the way 6A was handling things and customer service, so maybe this could be a step in a better direction? Let's hope so.

Tomorrow is the last eppy of Heroes until whenever. *sniff* I don't know if I can handle it and I'm really worried about certain people leaving the cast. *clings all her shows* DON'T LEAVE ME! WHAT WILL I AVOID REALITY WITH????

A couple of weeks ago my Zip.ca subscription sent me Gone With The Wind to watch. Now I admit I've never seen it (just clips) and I finally wanted to sit and watch this after years of my mum bugging me to, so I did. Sorta. I can now say I've seen the first half of GWTW, but not anything after the intermission. Why? BECAUSE THE DVD'S ARE SPLIT IN TWO AND THE DAMN RENTAL SERVICE DIDN'T SEND ME THE SECOND DISC!!!!!!! Bah. Bastards, so now I have to a) send the first disc back and hope the send me the second disc or b) rent the thing or c) buy it. I'm leaning towards buying it because so far what I've watched I've loved. Maybe I can sucker my dad into getting it for me tomorrow.

Tomorrow my dad and I are going shopping for mum and out to lunch. I hope the malls aren't too packed but I guess they shouldn't be bad since it's a weekday and school is still in.

I'm taking Wednesday off work and mum and I are going to go down town to look at some of the big department stores Christmas displays and window shop (although we'll probably buy something, we always do). Then maybe after we'll go see Enchanted. I've heard nothing but positive things about it and I'm really looking forward to it. It would be kinda the perfect mommy daughter thing to do.

The snow is now de-snowing. :( Its warmed up and now everything is turning to slush.

Tinkerbell brought in another bird this morning, but luckily my mum was able to save it. After she grabbed the poor thing and stuck it in the empty drawer she put some seed inside and left it to warm up for a couple of hours. When she opened the drawer the bird was hopping around wondering what the hell was going on. I'm thinking we should put a cowbell on Tinkerbell, that would help the birds know she was around.

I'm currently reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert . I don't normally read these kinds of books, but I'm really loving it and it makes me want to just take off so badly and travel to places and experience life. Sadly there's that little issue of money. Stupid money. Sometimes these books make it seem so easy to go and do that, but when you actually look at your life and try and figure out how to that it just depresses you. LOL

I also finished reading The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore. Such a good book and so damn funny. It's a great Christmas read (with Zombies and Angels).
