Staples is giving me $1400 for a new laptop. Unfortunately I can only get it as credit, so I can't cash it and go somewhere else and get a new computer. So, I can get a new computer or $1400 worth of pens.
They also won't give me back my old laptop, I figured they wouldn't, but they may not send it back to me just so I can get everything off of it. I might have to go all the way out to their service center and put everything on disk, or pay a tech $80 an hour to do it for me. Nothing is ever easy.

Date: 2005-12-14 03:39 pm (UTC)You can buy some very snazzy pens with $1400, that's for sure. ;)

Date: 2005-12-15 12:39 am (UTC)They should. I'm really pissed about that. If they won't back up my files they can at least let me have my computer for a day or two while I get my files backed up.

Date: 2005-12-15 12:43 am (UTC)Nope. But I'm sure if I asked they would.
What is wrong with the laptop? Is that part so important that you need to get a new computer?
All the USB plugs/ports are broken and sometimes my computer just restarts istelf because there is a hardwear problem. It needs a whole new motherboard. I could just continue using my laptop, but if I wan't to download photos from my camera or use the printer or anything that requres something with a USB port, then I'm screwed.

Date: 2005-12-14 11:01 pm (UTC)2. But, why won't they give you your old laptop...technically, you own it, right? Either way, they should give you a week to do it in your home, and then bring it back to them. Dimwits.
*hugs*

Date: 2005-12-15 12:44 am (UTC)Yeah, I own it, but they won't give me the the $1400 for a new one if I keep it. It's crazy, but that's the way it is.

Date: 2005-12-15 01:22 am (UTC)Ask if they'd be willing to switch out the harddrives for you. If the problems was with some other part of the computer, then it should work just fine. In the end, you get to keep all your files, you don't have to pay for someone else to do all the work, and you don't have to go through the hassle of moving all your files again. And they shouldn't really complain because your only getting one harddrive in the end.
When My toshiba finally died earlier this year(mommy spilled coffee on it), I had a computer guy take out the harddrive and put it in an x-drive. Which basically gives me a second hard drive that's the size of a check book, and can hook up to any computer that is usb compatible. Maybe because of all the hassle, they'll let you keep the old hard drive. The x-drive I bought was only $50US, but is worth every penny. I effectively have the 40GB I had on the Toshiba, plus the 60GB I have on the new computer I have now. I save all my files and everything on it, as back up.
